The amount payable by the drawee bank for each presented check leaf has been increased to 9270-TL, according to the Communiqué Amending the Communiqué (number: 2010/2) on the Printing Method of Check Books and Determination of the Amount Banks are Obligation to Pay to the Check Holder published in the Official Gazette on 27.01.2024.

The new regulation is as follows:

(1) The drawee bank, for each check leaf presented on time by the presenter other than the drawer, shall

a) In case there is no coverage,
1) If the check amount is nine thousand two hundred seventy Turkish Liras or more, pay nine thousand two hundred seventy Turkish Liras,
2) If the check amount is less than nine thousand two hundred seventy Turkish Liras, pay the check amount,
b) In case of partial coverage,
1) If the check amount is nine thousand two hundred seventy Turkish Liras or less, pay an amount to complete the partial coverage up to nine thousand two hundred seventy Turkish Liras, without exceeding the check amount,
2) If the check amount is more than nine thousand two hundred seventy Turkish Liras, pay an amount in addition to partial coverage, without exceeding the check amount.

The amendment will be effective on 31.01.2024.

According to the amended article, for checks issued before this date but presented later, the payment amount is set at 8650-TL per check leaf. So, it may be beneficial to present checks suspected of being non-sufficient to the bank after 31.01.2024.

The new regulation is as follows:

Before this Communiqué, the drawee bank is obliged to make payments up to eight thousand six hundred fifty Turkish Liras per check leaf for checks presented on time with no coverage, and to complete this amount for checks with partial coverage.
